Nylon tights

To date, it is difficult to imagine that once men wore stockings and at the same time this element of the wardrobe did not refer to women's clothes at all. Already after several centuries there was a revolution in the hosiery industry, and the world saw nylon pantyhose, enjoying unprecedented popularity among the fairer sex.

History of nylon pantyhose

In the middle of the 20th century, a well-known chemist, a member of the DuPont company, Wallace Carothers, created and successfully patented such material, new at that time, as nylon. The most interesting thing is that the company in which the scientist worked, specialized exclusively in the manufacture of explosive substances, including dynamite. Moreover, Wallace spent 13 years on the world to see nylon.

The clothes of the future, as they called black nylon pantyhose, were first shown to the ladies by the same DuPont company. At the World's Fair in New York, fashionistas met a mannequin fully clothed in nylon. In addition, from the event, each girl went not empty-handed - nylon pantyhose was carefully wrapped in a gift wrap.

What to say, but in the first year the company managed to sell more than 70 million pairs of this product. And this suggests that women appreciated the properties of nylon: pantyhose did not frown, did not stretch on the heels and knees, and besides it was easily put on, tightly fitting to the feet.

The most popular product was the American actress and dancer Anne Miller, and with the advent of mini skirts (late 1950s), designed by Mary Quant, the stockings faded into the background, giving way to pantyhose.
