Oufipoufoss Waterfall

Awesome country Iceland attracts travelers with its unique natural attractions from year to year. Waterfalls among them have a special place. There are a lot of them here, which is explained by the special location of the country, which is located on an island that has a volcanic origin and a special mountain landscape. Many waterfalls arose as a result of the melting of glaciers, which filled the local rivers.

Tourist routes must include visits to waterfalls in their program. One of them is Oufirufoss, which is one of the most beautiful and unusual in Iceland.

Oufayrufoss Waterfall - description

The Oufairufoss waterfall is located in the central Icelandic region on the Nyrðri-Ófær river. It includes two steps, located in a very close space volcanic canyon Eldyau.

Until 1992, you could see another attraction here, a natural-origin bridge from the basalt that crossed the waterfall. Thanks to this, Oufairufoss looked even more picturesque than it is now. But, unfortunately, the bridge was destroyed during the flood, which was formed as a result of melting snow.

Despite the fact that the waterfall Oufayrufoss has lost its natural decoration, it does not cease to remain an extremely beautiful corner of Iceland, surprising with its power. The traveler who finds himself in these places, opens an amazing landscape - crystal clear water, which falls into a natural niche and at the same time raises and splashes and foam in huge quantities, against the backdrop of overgrown with green moss of massive stones. The steps along which water descends are very narrow in size. When you look at them, you get the impression that they are simply clamped in the grip of the walls of the canyon. It is these that explains the incredible amount of spray.

Tourists who have found themselves in these places, it is recommended to make a walk to the area of Mount Gyatindur. From there, a magnificent view opens up to Eldyau, which in translation means "The Fiery Canyon" and is considered the largest in the world. It arose in 934 as a result of a volcanic eruption. The canyon is a fissure of volcanic origin, the dimensions of which in some places reach up to 600 m in width and 200 m in depth. Its length is 40 km, and it originates under the glacier Mirdalsjokudl.
