What is parakeratosis of the cervix?

Strictly speaking, parakeratosis is not a diagnosis, it is a symptom of a cervical disease. The cytological picture, typical for parakeratosis, is typical for cervical leukoplakia, which refers to precancerous conditions of the cervix.

If any signs of parakeratosis are found in the smear, additional tests should be performed: oncocytology, fluid cytology , colposcopy. Under parakeratosis of the flat epithelium of the cervix uteri in the lower layer can be atypical cells.

With confirmed parakeratosis, it is recommended to register with an oncogynecologist for the appointment of adequate therapy. In the absence of treatment, the areas of the cervix with parakeratosis are covered with horny white spots consisting of sclerized tissues. And this is already a sign of leukoplakia of the cervix , which is characterized by the presence of white patches on the surface of the cervix.

Treatment of parakeratosis of the cervix

For the treatment of parakeratized tissues, scraping of the mucous membrane of the cervix is carried out, followed by examination of the material for the presence of atypical cells. Sometimes treatment with cauterization of the site with parakeratosis using a laser is used.

Treatment of keratosis of the cervix by home methods - douches, tampons, baths - is undesirable, since under the layer of parakeratosis cells atypia, it can begin to develop actively under the influence of the nutrient medium of folk remedies.
