Planting barberry in the spring

Usually, plants are transplanted and propagated in autumn and spring. The time of planting barberry in this plan is nothing special. In the spring you carry the bush to the selected place on the site, and the movement of the juice inside makes it grow actively. Thus, by autumn the bush is completely rooted and is preparing for wintering, and the next spring it is ready for the beginning of vegetation.

Planting of barberry seedlings in spring

Regardless of whether you are going to plant a barberry of Thunberg, ordinary or any other kind, you can do this in two ways:

  1. The most popular method is cuttings. The essence of the process is to get cuttings from an adult healthy bush, further their rooting and planting. To be able to tackle the planting of barberry in the spring, we will be preparing the cuttings already in June. To do this, select the side branches, then cut the workpiece for the landing. All the lower leaves are removed. Root our workpieces without the use of a stimulant will be difficult. Plant the cuttings in perlite or a mixture of sand and peat. We cover the boxes with film and periodically ventilate the first time. Do not forget about spraying with water, loosening the soil. After the seedlings are well rooted, you can transfer them to boxes with loose soil, previously adding mineral top dressing. In the boxes the seedlings of barberry grow stronger, and in the spring for the next season you will be able to start planting them in a permanent place. This option is perfect for planting barberry ordinary, and other species.
  2. What if the bush does not need pruning? For example, on your site the barberry of Tunberga has beautifully grown, you want to multiply it, but planting with cuttings is impossible for one reason or another. No problem! Almost all kinds of barberry can be propagated by layers according to the principle of working with gooseberry. To do this, you need to find annual branches. We are looking for planting barberry only the most powerful and unaffected branches of the bush. We carefully loosen and clean the plot of land near it, then we cut out the furrows. In these furrows we will lay branches so that only the tops remain above the soil level. If you start harvesting seedlings from the barberry bar in this way, then by the summer they will take root and planting can be practiced for the next season. In this case, all species features will be preserved, and the seedlings will be healthy, which greatly simplifies the task.
