Public Theater

The central square of the city of Bellinzona , known as the city of three castles , is filled with a magical atmosphere, which is especially acute in the morning Saturday. An important role in this is played by the Bellinzona public theater.

History of the theater

The public theater of Bellinzona was built in the 40s of the XIX century. His project was designed by the Milanese architect Giacomo Morali, and the construction was supervised by engineer Rocco von Mentlen. The official opening of the theater took place on December 6, 1847. Initially, the public theater of Bellinzona was designed in a classical style, but was later changed three times:

For 170 years of activity, the Bellinzona public theater in Switzerland managed to also visit a cinema, but this career ended in 1970. Until the 90s of the XX century the building was empty.

Features of the theater

Lombard architect Giacomo Morali, who directed the project of Bellinzona public theater, is known for his works in the neoclassical architectural style. This style is clearly traced in the architecture of the theater. The public theater of Bellinzona is a two-storeyed building of cubic shape, characterized by strictness and laconism. On the main facade there are five portals: two side portals - rectangular, and the rest - semi-circular arched. The second tier is divided into rectangular windows, between which are installed granite pilasters with triangular pediments.

As soon as you cross the threshold of Bellinzona's public theater, you find yourself in a small foyer. From here a narrow corridor leads to the main theater hall with a high dome. In the hall of the public theater Bellinzona in Switzerland can accommodate up to 700 spectators.
