Nelahozeves


Nelahozeves is a small village in the Czech Republic not far from Prague , where one of the most famous Renaissance castles of the country is located . He attracts both his architecture and the collection of medieval paintings.

For the first time about such a place as Nelagozeves, it became known as far back as 1352, however the castle began to be built only in 1553, when the land was bought by the Czech nobleman Florian Gryaspagh. The construction took more than 50 years. The castle was completed only in 1613.

After Gryplespakh's death, the building was sold to the Lobkowicz family, who owned it until nationalization. There is a legend that once, in order to preserve the treasures of the castle, the owners took them to secret underground passages, and before surrendering the Swedes fell asleep these corridors. Until now, no confirmation of this legend has been found, but many still believe that where under the castle are hidden innumerable riches.

What to see?

The castle of Nelahozeves is a wonderfully beautiful building in the spirit of the Renaissance, which is perfectly preserved. The architecture of the castle is not pretentious, but very elegant and perfectly combined with the surrounding landscape. The walls of Nelagozveves are covered with a sgraffito painting - this is a very interesting kind of interior decoration.

Despite the small size of the castle, it has about a hundred rooms, and almost all of them are accessible for tourists. Among other things, you can visit:

Nelagozeves is not without reason called the Czech Louvre: a large collection of medieval canvases is collected here. It is she who invariably attracts lovers and connoisseurs of art to the castle. The collection includes paintings by Rubens, Cranach the elder, Veronese and other masters of the Medieval era.

How to get there?

From the Prague railway station ( Masaryk Square ) there are trains to Usti nad Labem, they pass through Nelahozeves. From the railway station to the castle itself, literally 10-15 minutes. On the train you have to spend about half an hour. If you go by bus, you will have to make a transfer. From the Kobylisy bus station in Prague, you will need to drive to the town of Kralupy nad Vltavou, and from there to the Nelahozeves castle.

You can also go by car, because Prague and this landmark is only 30 km apart.
