Tabloid The Guardian reported on the temporary cessation of the release and sale of dolls in Mexico, depicting a brilliant artist Frida Kahlo. In the context of the journalistic investigation, the circumstances of such a categorical decision were clarified and an interview was taken with Salma Hayek, who played Frida in a 2002 biographic film about the life of Kalo.
A series of dolls "Inspiring Women" from the brand Mattel has repeatedly been sharply criticized and accusations of the discrepancy between real heroines and created images. What happened this time? The Mexican court, caring for the cultural heritage and legal settlement with the artist's relatives, demanded that the manufacturer obtain permission from niece Mara de Anda Romeo, a representative of Calo, and correct the actual errors in the image.
Note that the company ignored comments and criticism that the doll does not match the original image. The doll has no monobrovi, "antennae" and eyes are bright, in contrast to the dark-brown artist.
The actress Salma Hayek opposed the release of the doll. She was outraged by the fact that the unified "mannequin" was made from the image of the artist:
"The doll has nothing to do with the real Frida Kahlo. And it's not just her appearance, but also the absence of a soul in her. Kahlo never adjusted to anyone and did not try to imitate someone. It is unique! How could she make Barbie out of her image and devalue her experience, her legacy? "Read also
