  1. The shape and size of the aquarium. Shrimp can live in vessels of any capacity, but volumes from 35 to 100 liters are most preferable. For one hundred liters of volume, they can be purchased up to 10 individuals so that they do not compete with each other in terms of habitat and food.
  2. Water temperature. Shrimp can successfully adapt in water at a temperature of 20-28 degrees. Upgrade of water should be carried out weekly up to 40%. Freshwater crustaceans are quite sensitive to water quality. It should be clean and rich in oxygen, its composition - soft and neutral.
  3. Equipment for the aquarium. From the equipment for their maintenance, a filtration, aeration, heating and lighting system is necessary. The jet from the filter should be directed not to the center of the aquarium, but to the side to form a small internal flow. Shrimp often breed, and the young can get into the filter. Therefore, it is better to use a sponge filter in the vessel, to which it will not be possible to get to them. The water intake can be closed with a fine grid. Crustaceans are quite sensitive to the presence of oxygen in the water, so the compressor must be switched on constantly. Heating and lighting can be adjusted to the needs of fish and plants.
  4. Decoration of the aquarium. When decorating an aquarium for shrimp, shelters should be created where they can hide during moulting. For this purpose locks, wrecks, snags, tree roots are suitable. Young individuals often moult and hide in them.
  5. Priming. Primer for the aquarium is recommended to use rocky, as in streams. Such an atmosphere will bring shrimps closer to their habitat. Once a year, it is required to wash the soil, so you can remove the accumulated organic matter from the aquarium and improve the water quality.
  6. Holes in the aquarium. Shrimp can crawl out of the water. In a vessel it is necessary to leave only small slits for inflow of air between a cover and the aquarium itself. The remaining holes can be closed with foam rubber. Shrimp live from one to two years.
