Siberian breed of cats

One of the most popular cats among allergy sufferers is Siberian. The wool of these cats is medium in length and very thick, but it does not cause an allergic reaction.

Siberian cat: description

The Siberian breed of cats is characterized by large sizes, well developed musculature and powerful, strong paws. Little these cats are never ever - it is due to their size and strength, they were called "Siberian". The weight of an adult cat reaches 6 kg, and cats can have a message and 10-12 kg.

The body is characterized by a low seating position; the head of Siberian cats is of medium size or large, with a flat upper part, the neck is short and powerful. It is considered a very good sign that the Russian Siberian cat has "tassels" on its ears.

A distinctive feature of Siberian cats are the bundles of wool between the fingers. There is an opinion that this is a legacy of forest and steppe cats with which domesticated cats crossed.

The Siberian cat has a long enough coat in the neck and chest area, which forms a kind of fur collar or "mane". On the hind legs, the coat is also quite long and dense - the so-called "panties". Due to these peculiarities, Siberian cats have something in common with Persian ones.

The wool of the Siberian cat does not get wet enough, it is hard enough (the soft undercoat remains soft), shiny. On the sides, the wool is softer and fits well to the body.

The most natural color is the color that allows the animal to merge with the environment during hunting, that is, striped, perhaps slightly "blurred". There are also possible types of color, such as marble, tiger or mackerel, spotty, color tikit-tabby (the strips are not across the body, but along).

The color of the coat can be anything other than chocolate, lilac, Abyssinian, Burmez.

One of the most popular variants of color in the fur of cats is color-point, or "masquerade." Siberian masquerade cat differs in color from other "relatives": the muzzle and legs are darker in color, create the feeling of a carnival mask and gloves.

How to choose a kitten?

Kittens of the Siberian cat are divided into three classes, depending on the belonging to which their cost is determined:

  1. 1st class - pet . They are pets. Most likely, they did not pass the "casting" to meet the high standards that are presented to future exhibitors. This does not mean that the kittens are weak or sick. They may differ in the best character, playfulness, vitality, but for breeding the breed does not fit the requirements of the breeders (the size of the ears, the width of the spout, or some other set of trifles, not at all important for those who want to acquire their beloved animals).
  2. Breeding . Kittens of this class are intended for breed breeding. They cost more than kittens of class pet. But overpay for a kitten of this class does not make sense, if the animal is purchased solely for the role of a pet.
  3. Show . Siberian kittens of this class are the most expensive. They are suitable for participation in exhibitions, as they meet all the highest requirements of the breed.

Before you buy a kitten, it will not be superfluous to check its "stress resistance", because from this important indicator it will depend on whether the kitten can live in a house with many children and experience the stress caused by participation in exhibitions. To do this, leave the kitten in the room alone, without the other kittens, but with "cat's" toys. When the kitten is examined, calmed down and begins to play, you should clap your hands loudly. If the kitten did not run away - it's very good. It's also not bad if the kitten hid, but looked at the tender voice. If the animal has to be looked for and extracted from the shelter by itself, and a tender voice does not help, then the kitten is weak enough and it is worthwhile to look at other kittens.

Caring for a Siberian cat

Long-haired cats need constant care, and Siberian cats are no exception. Kittens must necessarily be accustomed to daily combing out the wool, so that they are accustomed to this and do not resist the comb in a more mature age.

You can not allow the animal to lie in the sun for a long time, that Siberian cats love very much: from the sunlight the coat can change color.

What to feed the Siberian cat? She must receive solid food to prevent the formation of tartar. Also, the perfect dish will be a piece of hard (not soft chicken breast!) Meat. An obligatory condition for feeding an Siberian cat - the food must be varied.

Bathing cats often should not be, especially Siberian. Bathing is just necessary after visiting the villa, before the exhibition, as well as the contamination of the pet's coat. Before swimming Siberian cats must be carefully combed out. In addition, you need to make sure that after the last meal of the animals no less than 4 hours have passed. Before bathing, the ears are cleaned with a swab soaked in peach or petrolatum oil. It is better not to wet your head, but wipe it with a damp cloth.

How many live Siberian cats?

If you comply with all the conditions for caring for an animal, a Siberian cat can live 20 years, and remain playful and active. In general, Siberian cats are considered long-lived, so if the average life of cats of other breeds is estimated at 14 years, then for "Siberians" is considered the norm of 16-18 years. Recently, there are more and more frequent references to the fact that Siberian cats live for more than 22 years.
