Old buildings destroyed the earthquake in 1895. They were replaced by new buildings, built in the style of Art Nouveau and eclecticism. Thus, a central Neo-Renaissance pharmacy, Mayer's palace, a department store building appeared on Presherna Square.

In 1901, tramways were laid, and four years later a monument to the poet F. Prešern was erected on the square, which was created by the Slovenian sculptor Ivan Zaets, after which she was given the modern name. Since 1991 the place has been declared a cultural monument of local importance.
