The newborn has a navel

Handling the navel of the newborn is not an easy task, but rather a responsible one. As a rule, before discharge from the maternity home, the young mother receives from the medical staff the basic information about caring for the baby's umbilicus. But how come if, after returning home, you noticed that the baby's navel is getting wet? To understand the reasons and correct the situation, this article will help you. In it we will consider whether it is worth getting frightened if the navel becomes wet, what to do, why the navel is wetting the newborn and whether it can be avoided.

Why will the navel become wet?

When healing, the navel of the newborn should get a little wet. This is normal. Sometimes around it dry crusts of yellowish color are formed. They must be removed, because they contribute to the emergence of infections. To avoid this kind of trouble, we advise you to strictly observe the following rules:

  1. Remember that the wound on the belly button can not heal instantly, it will take time. Do not panic. Typically, it takes about two weeks, but with a large umbilical wound healing can last longer.
  2. Prepare everything you need for the baby: cotton wool, green, cotton buds, iodine, manganese, infusion of chlorophyllipt (1%).
  3. In the early days, the navel may bleed a little. This is normal. Treat it with antiseptic drugs twice a day.
  4. After bathing, rub the navel from the center to the edges, slightly opening the scar using the thumb and index finger of the other hand, placing the fingers near the navel, but without touching the wound.
  5. Water for bathing must be boiled. This should be done until the navel is fully healed.
  6. It is better to bathe the child in a separate small bath, but not in the general.
  7. If there is a clamp on the navel and a small umbilical remnant, the crumb can be bathed once a day. If the navel is only umbilical wound, it is better in the early days to replace bathing with rubbing.
  8. Raspashonki, diapers and other children's things must be properly ironed for sterilization.

To treat the navel, if it becomes wet, most often use hydrogen peroxide and zelenok. Despite its cheapness, these drugs are excellent in their task. Good results are obtained by treatment with a solution of chlorophyllipt.

If the navel bleeds for more than 5 days, inflamed, reddened skin around him, there are purulent or foul-smelling discharge - immediately consult a doctor.
