To school from 6 or 7 years old?

To send a child to school from the age of 6 or from 7 years is a question that every parent must answer in due time. Sometimes it is possible to make the right choice, and sometimes it takes many years to regret the mistake made. The fact is that this question does not have a universal answer that is suitable for everyone, the decision depends on the specific family and the particular child.

First-grader - determine readiness

Most parents believe that the determining factor for the child's admission to school is his knowledge base. He knows the letters and counts to ten - it's time to give to the first class. But this is an erroneous reference point, because emotional and psychological readiness is the first priority. We must understand that the child has to cope with heavy loads, is he ready for these tests physically and morally? If the child is painful, it is better for him to spend another year at home, to get stronger, otherwise permanent sick leave will make him lagging behind in the class and will cause the inferiority of the child. It is important that the child has experience of communication in the team. If he did not attend the kindergarten, then at least one year before school it is necessary to take him to the circles, developing centers, to send them to the preparatory group, etc.

Six-year-old features

If we talk about the main features of the six-year-old first-graders, we can distinguish the following:

  1. By the age of 6, the child does not yet have the assiduity that is necessary for full-fledged studies. Devote 45 minutes to one lesson to kids of this age is almost beyond the power.
  2. At 6 years old, it is still difficult for a child to realize himself as part of a collective, for them there is only "I", not "we", because of which the teacher has to repeatedly repeat appeals addressed to all children at once.
  3. The six-year-old can enthusiastically embrace the upcoming trip to school, because for him this is another adventure. In this sense, it is important for parents to understand that in words the child's desire to go to school does not at all mean his understanding of what is to come.
  4. The peculiarity of first-graders is that they quickly grasp new material, but also quickly forget it. This is an age-specific feature of memory that makes learning not very productive. However, regular repetitions put everything in its place.
  5. Unconditional plus of entering the school in 6 years - the opportunity to finish it before.

Seven-year-old features

Psychologists and teachers advise giving children to a general educational institution no earlier than 7 years. Still, study is a serious process and the more conscious the child is at the beginning of the process, the more results he will achieve. However, at this age it is possible to note the pros and cons:

  1. Seven years is easier to understand the order of study and get used to it. At the end of September, he will understand the system of lessons, changes, homework and painlessly exist in it.
  2. The child by the age of 7 is well developed fine motor skills , which indicates a better mental development, and tasks in the words will perform much easier.
  3. At 7 years old the child already understands what is responsibility, he came to her gradually, while for a six-year-old child this responsibility suddenly falls off at one point and causes stress.
  4. The tendency to give children earlier in school can negatively affect the seven-year first grader, who will soon be 8 years old. On the general background, it will seem like an overgrown that will complicate the adaptation.
  5. It may turn out that a seven-year-old child already knows how to read and write well, which means that among other first-graders he will be bored to learn. Such a child can become a miser, or may lose interest in the school.

Naturally, these are all very general characteristics, so before deciding to weigh the pros and cons, consult a psychologist and a doctor.
