Trebinje - attractions

In the extreme south of the Republika Srpska, in Bosnia and Herzegovina , lies the beautiful cozy town of Trebinje . Through it the river Trebishnica flows , and only 24 kilometers is Dubrovnik (Croatia). The city is at the junction of three states - Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. Trebinje is often called the city of three religions. There are many mosques, Orthodox and Catholic churches here. To other attractions the city is stingy.

Public places

Trebinje is the largest and most beautiful city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this case, it is inhabited by just over 40 thousand people. And in fact the town is quite small - its old center can be bypassed for some 15-20 minutes.

There are many sights, however, it is not enough to tell about each of them.

For example, the largest, it is possible to say, a landmark is a cafe surrounded by ancient plane trees. When they bloom, the spectacle is amazing. Or the embankment is just a beautiful place, especially in autumn, when the trees are painted in a variety of colors. Do not take with you on a trip camera, then completely deprive yourself of incredible memories.

In general, plane trees - the symbol of Trebinje, there are a lot of them and even some hotels are called "Platani". In the center of the city is a cozy, green park. The paths are paved with tiles, many openwork benches, and vegetation as in a real forest. There are many species to be imprinted on memory, just have time to photograph.

The square in the Old Town and part of the fortress walls are the remains of Trebinje of the 15th century. There are no more buildings that have been preserved since those times in the old center, but there are many cafes and restaurants where huge portions are served at quite moderate prices. During the daytime, the market unfolds on the square. Local residents sell on it a variety of food - cheese, meat, vegetables and fruits, as well as pickles, olive oil, eggs.

But the bridge Arslanagich - the most that neither is authentic. The truth is, it's not in the place where it was originally built. Its construction ended in the 16th century, and it stood then 5 km north of the city, on the trade route. In 1960, the construction of a hydroelectric power station began and the bridge was flooded. Well, even then come to my senses and transferred it almost in its original form a little higher.

Religious buildings

Not far from the central park is the church. It bears the name of the Holy Transfiguration. Strangely enough, it was built quite recently, at the end of the XIX century. The entourage is more than simple, what's outside, what's inside. From the icons there is an impression that they were painted on ordinary office paper.

Another church, and with it a bell tower and a church shop, is on a church hill, not far from the church of the Holy Transfiguration. The name given to the hill is not accidental. Here excavations were carried out, which showed that around the 4th century there was a church here. The present church is called Hercegovachka-Gracanica . It is an exact copy of the monastery of the same name in Kosovo (Gracanica). Despite the fact that the church is very fresh - built in 2000, it is necessary to look here. Its style is Byzantine, the interior is rich, with candles around it, it smells of incense. Under the arches of the church lie the remains of the Serbian poet Ivan Duchich, and it was built according to his death testament.

Around the church is a kind of leisure complex. There is a playground, a cafe, cages with pets (rabbits, chickens), a fountain, many flower beds, even a bookshop there.

The Osman Pasha Mosque is a landmark building in Trebinje, left over from the Turks. It was built in the XVIII century. During the war of 1992 - 1995, it was completely destroyed. Restoration of the historical monument was delayed. The mosque took its original form only in 2005.

Monastery Tvrdos is located in the distance from the city. It is believed that it was built by the emperor Constantine. It is worth going here not so much because of religious beliefs or "just to gawk", but because of the delicious wine that monks produce.
