Varnish for parquet

Parquet is significantly different from other types of flooring, at least in that it requires constant care. Without varnish, such a flooring will not last long, and repair of the parquet will probably be required, so it is necessary to use various means to care for it. But, despite the rather rich choice of means, the varnish for parquet remains in the first place. He perfectly copes with the tasks assigned and looks great. But what are the criteria for choosing a varnish?

What types of varnish exist?

Varnish for parquet, how to choose? One of the factors with this choice is the purpose of the room and the load on the parquet board. If we cover the kitchen or the corridor, that is, the premises that are most polluted and more passable, then the load on the floor increases, and if it is a living room with an art parquet or a bedroom, then, respectively, the load decreases.

If it is supposed to be varnished with public places, such as a restaurant or bar, then the coating should be as stable and practical as possible. In this case, either waterproof formulations or special oil-based protective compounds are usually used to preserve the parquet as long as possible in its original form.

Determine what kind of varnish is applied to the parquet, it is necessary for the master, but your word should be significant, therefore, it would not be bad that you also had some notion of finishing the floor. Consider now what are the varnishes for parquet. Varnishes differ according to the following criteria:

Primer varnish

It includes varnishes applied to the final coating of the parquet with varnish in order to increase the adhesion to the parquet board. It is used to improve the properties of the top coat of lacquer. Before applying the primer, make sure it is compatible with the finish coat. Primer varnish dries quickly, from 20 minutes to 4 hours.

Water-soluble varnish

After applying the priming varnish it remains to complete the work, that is, to apply the final layer. One of the most advantageous types of varnish is a water-based varnish. It is the most accessible from all other species, but, accordingly, has a number of minuses. So, this varnish wears out more quickly, it needs to be applied only with a special roller, and the water parquet varnish does not guarantee you complete silence due to the fact that, when applied, it penetrates between the boards, and the floor will creak.

But the greatest advantage is that of all types of varnish, it smells the least of all, which is very beneficial in living quarters. Lacquer coating without odor for parquet allows you to stay in the room to other people who have no treatment for sex.

Anhydrous polyurethane varnish

It is ideal for rooms with high traffic, it is very durable and less harmful compared to other types of varnish. Plus this varnish is that it does not need a primer, and it is not afraid of moisture, and also has a more acceptable odor. It can be argued that this is the best varnish for parquet in all respects.

Alkyd varnish

The main component of this type of varnish are oil resins, which penetrate the wood quite deeply and emphasize the structure of the board. But such varnish does not stand wear, therefore it is used, basically, for furniture covering. For a parquet board, the oil varnish is not very suitable, although it looks pretty attractive.

Now varnish is very fashionable for parquet color. Such a coating will add a little more to the excavation.

Proceeding from the above, it can be understood that for each kind of varnish there is an advantage in the application.
