Wellington Town Hall


In 1904, the construction of an elegant historic building was completed, which today is the venue for conferences, festivities, exhibitions, and various concerts. It's about the Wellington Town Hall. It was built according to the project of the famous architect Joshua Charlvors. The beginning of its construction was so important for the capital of New Zealand that the first stone was laid on June 18, 1901 by none other than King George V. Himself, the festivities about the creation of the Town Hall lasted five days.

What to see?

Originally the facade of the building was decorated with a Roman portico and clock towers, but 30 years after the opening of this landmark, they were dismantled. This was done for safety reasons in the event of a possible earthquake.

To date, the central hall seats 1500 people. What locals like here most of all, so this is excellent acoustics. Not for nothing that this building hosts concerts, both modern and classical music. This is so famous place that once it was played by the legendary Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

It is worth noting that part of the Town Hall is occupied by the office premises of the city council and the mayor of Wellington .
