The kitchen is not only a place of cooking, but a place of relaxation and communication with guests. That's why you should pay special attention to the selection of furniture, countertops and kitchen accessories. A big role in choosing a "filling" is the case material. Modern manufacturers offer many options, starting with modern enamel facades, ending with a classic array of wood. Logically the question arises: what material is better for the kitchen? To make the final choice, you need to analyze each kind of coverage.
Materials for the kitchen
Firms for the manufacture of kitchen furniture offer original facades, which determine the style and tone of the perception of the kitchen. The front panel is actually the "face" of the room, so you need to choose the material very carefully. And there is something to choose from:
- Particleboard . The most popular material from which 50% of all kitchen frames are made. Since Soviet times, the technology for the production of chipboard has changed significantly and today it is not the same slabs in the corners that are familiar to us from past experience. European manufacturers are produced moisture-proof weighted chipboard, having a high density. The standard thickness of the slab is 15-18 mm, but there are also particularly strong in 21-25 mm.
- MDF . It is considered more perfect than the first material. It is made from wood dust and chips, glued with carbamide resins. This non-deformable, dense material is distinguished by its bio-resistance, fire resistance and high strength (higher than that of natural wood). From the slabs, it is possible to mold any configurations, including decorative curbs. MDF is 10-15% more expensive than chipboard.
- A wooden file . The most expensive and high-quality material. Its cost exceeds the cost of MDF by 15-25%. Usually only the door frame is made from the array, and the panel itself is made of veneered or laminated MDF. This is done to minimize the deformation of the facades, since the tree is sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. Completely wooden kitchen is pretreated with antiseptics, impregnations and opened with a special varnish.
- Plastic . Most often used in kitchens in a modern style. The facade is made by gluing plastic on the MDF base. Decorative and textural diversity is combined with high durability, so this facade is in high demand. The plastic is resistant to fire, scratching and moisture.

In addition to the listed materials, there are also less popular options: metal, acrylic, enamel, veneer and even artificial stone. It is rather difficult to distinguish the best material for making a kitchen, since each person has his own quality criteria. If for you the principles of ecology and naturalness are fundamental, then your choice is MDF, chipboard and wood. If you are after an authentic design, then stop on modern materials (plastic, enamel).
Kitchen worktop material
Along with the materials for the facade of the kitchen, there are also materials for the countertop . Experts recommend not to save on the countertop, as it determines the quality of the kitchen. The most popular materials are:
- acrylic resin / polyester (resemble natural stone);
- granite;
- wood (maple, white oak, beech);
- laminated chipboard;
- stainless steel;
- laminate.
When choosing material, pay special attention to the style of the interior. So, minimalism and hi-tech are well combined with "cold" materials (steel, stone, plastic).
