Andalusian Garden

One of the most interesting places in the capital of Morocco is the Andalusian garden. In Rabat itself there are not many places of interest - among the most important are the Minaret of Hassan , the ancient city of Shella , the Royal Palace, the Mausoleum of Muhammad V and the fortress of Kasba Udaiya - that is why the Andalusian garden enjoys a well-deserved popularity among tourists. Let's find out where this place is and what you can see there.

What is interesting about the Andalusian garden of Rabat?

Behind the high walls of ocher color, which on the inside are covered with loach and bougainvilleas, you will see a real green oasis of life. A lot of plants are planted in the garden. These are palm trees, cypresses, plane trees, orange and lemon trees, laurels, jasmine, and also all kinds of flowers that are only found on the territory of the Maghreb - only about 650 varieties of flora. Such a variety is best served by the Mediterranean climate of Rabat. The whole area of the garden is decorated in the form of different levels of terraces, descending to the river.

Initially, the garden was founded as a gardening experiment for the National University of Agronomic Research, today it is a traditional place of rest for both local population and visiting tourists.

Despite the fact that the Andalusian garden was built in the XX century, it gives the impression of a rather ancient structure. But, one way or another, its territory is in excellent condition, after all, and to this day they take care, maintaining cleanliness and order. By the way, this landmark is listed in UNESCO as one of the most valuable botanical gardens in the world. It is interesting that many birds live here, including storks, and cats. There is always a calm, pacifying atmosphere, which contrasts sharply with the busy center of the modern city. Andalusian garden Rabat, by the way, is quite small in size - it is an ideal place to sit in silence, meditate, thinking about the eternal and relaxing from the city's bustle of everyday life.

Inspection of the garden is well combined with a visit to the nearby Udaïa Caspian, and the Museum of Moroccan Art located in the garden. In addition, there is a café-pastry shop where you can have a bite of sweet pastries cooked according to national recipes and drink traditional peppermint tea. There is also an observation deck with which you can admire the beautiful views of the ocean.

How to get to the Andalusian garden?

Traveling around the capital of Morocco, be sure to check out the Andalusian garden. It is easily accessible by city bus - you need to get off at the Arret Bar El Had stop. Keep in mind that it is best to begin the inspection of the garden from the top of it, gradually going down to the river.
