Antonín Dvořák Museum

In an old Baroque building not far from the center of Prague is the Dvorak Museum, the famous creator of the traditional Czech music school. It is part of the music museum of the Czech Republic and tells about the life and work of one of the most famous composers of this country, who created their works in the style of Romanticism.

A bit of history

The Antonín Dvořák Museum was founded in 1932. The Society named after the composer acquired a baroque mansion for this purpose, built in 1720 by the order of Count Jan Mihny. The building, called "Villa America", was acquired by the municipality of Prague in 1843 and has since been used for different purposes.

Exposition of the museum

The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the composer. Here you can see his music manuscripts and published scores, personal letters and photographs, posters and theatrical programs, as well as personal things-for example, a grand piano on which he composed musical compositions and some other musical instruments. The library of the composer, as well as the cloak and cap, which he received while becoming a doctor of the University of Cambridge, is stored here.

In addition, visitors are attracted to the interior of the palace. The central hall is decorated with frescoes on antique themes, made by famous artist Jan Shor, stucco molding and richly decorated fireplace. The interior of the museum retains the original interiors of the XIX century. Some of the items really belonged to the composer, others are called to simply convey the spirit of that era, to show the life of the end of the century before last.
