Prague Main Station

The main or central station of Prague is the largest and at the same time an important railway junction for the capital itself, and in general for the whole of the Czech Republic .

Some historical information

The main railway station was opened in 1871 in Prague. Then it was a neo-renaissance building. Later, by 1909, the exterior of the station was completely changed - a building was built in the Art Nouveau style designed by the architect I. Phantha, slightly apart from the neo-Renaissance. It is this building that we can see now.

In the years 1971-1979. the territory of the railway station in Prague was expanded due to the metro station . This new building significantly reduced the territory of the park, and also blocked the old historic building of the station in 1871.

Infrastructure

The main station of Prague covers a very considerable territory, on which, of course, not only the ticket offices are located. The infrastructure includes:

  1. Waiting rooms and scoreboard. While you are resting in anticipation of your flight, you can easily observe the changes on the large scoreboards, which are almost at every step.
  2. Storage chambers , which at the station in Prague are many. They are divided into two types - short-term (24 hours) and long-term (up to 40 days). There are also special cameras for bicycles.
  3. ATMs and exchangers . There are a lot of them on the territory of the station, they accept any cards. However, it is worth noting that the exchange rate at the station is unprofitable, so the money here should be changed only in case of emergency, but in general it is better to do it already in the city.
  4. Cafes and shops - at the station you can drink coffee, and buy something delicious on the road.
