History of the Museum

Film director Ivan Steiger in 1968 emigrated from the Czech Republic to Germany, it was in Munich that he began to collect toys. The first were acquired as a film requisite. Over time, the collection began to replenish with exclusive and valuable exhibits. For this, the director had to travel all over Germany and the nearest countries, organizing meetings with different people who helped to create the collection. Only in 1989 Steiger returned to the Czech Republic and decided to open a toy museum in his native city - Prague. Since then, a lot of time has passed, but the museum has not lost its popularity among different generations of Czechs and guests of the country.

Journey to childhood

It's amazing that in just 20 years the creator of the museum managed to collect a completely unique collection of toys. On the windows of the museum you will see ancient, exclusive and newest toys from all over the world. The museum is divided into 2 sections: in the first - an exhibition of old toys, in the second - modern. In total, the museum has 11 exhibition halls that occupy 2 floors. The collection of the Toy Museum in Prague is:

  1. Ancient toys. Visitors will be surprised by these primitive toys of more than 2 thousand years old. Basically it's crafts made of wood, stone and even bread.
  2. Ancient collections. It is very interesting to see the toys that the children played a century ago. Dolls in luxurious outfits and their houses are so realistic that one can not believe that all this is a toy: bathrooms with golden mixers and a shower, and even tiny cats play with a ball of thread at the feet of their puppet mistress.
  3. Barbie dolls. The most famous of them is a separate room. Recalculate all very difficult - there are thousands of them. Next to the dolls are handbags, outfits, dishes, ornaments, small houses - everything that was produced in production for the comfortable and beautiful life of Barbie for many years. By the way, it was in this museum that the first doll of 1959 was exhibited. There are Barbie politicians, actresses, sportswomen, singers, scientists, etc. In this room you can see the entire evolution of the doll and even find out how it was created.
  4. Teddy bears. It is impossible to imagine a museum without the beloved toy of many generations. In the collection there are more than 200 bears. Most of the bears belong to the beginning of the XX century, at that time they were the most popular toys all over the world.
  5. All for boys. The huge hall has collected favorite toys of boys of many generations. There are toy cities, factories, railway stations, tool sets, wooden and metal constructors, soldiers' armies, cars, robots, amusement parks, etc.
  6. Animal world. It's interesting how carefully designed in the windows are toy animals. On farms you will see all the pets. In mini-zoos, they are divided into continents, on which they live. In miniature there are even circuses with very realistic artists-animals.
