Autumn pruning pears

Like the rest of the orchard trees, the pear needs a timely autumn pruning. It pursues somewhat different goals than the spring one, but this is not less important.

Terms of autumn pruning pears

Places that have fallen asleep or cut off unnecessary branches should be well healed before the start of frost. If the pear is cut too late, the tree will be severely damaged in the winter. That's why you should do sanitary work early in the garden. It is advisable to have time to do this before the end of September, and in warm regions until the middle of October.

Types of trimming

Classify three types of pruning - forming, supporting and rejuvenating. As a rule, the formation of the crown is carried out in the form of an autumn pruning of a young pear. If it is not produced, the tree will grow inconvenient for processing - spraying, pruning and removing fruit.

Crown of a two-year-old pear with the help of forming autumn pruning can already be given the necessary shape. But in the first year after planting, the tree is not cut off. To form a plant, which is more precise to maintain a given form is required annually, namely, in the fall.

Old trees, whose active fruition has ended, can be made to "work" for several more years. For this, a rejuvenating autumn pruning is performed, leaving the best branches that are still able to yield.

Ways of trimming

To trim a pear, you need to know how to do it. You can thin out and shorten. However, it is not worthwhile to sever the branches very much in autumn - it is better to leave this procedure until the spring. But thinning can be done very actively, because with the beginning of spring, unnecessary growth, which thickens the crown will interfere with the access of sunlight.

In addition, unnecessary twigs pull the vitality that the tree could direct to improve the quality of the main branches and fruiting. It is best to trim in the fall, because with the beginning of sap flow, excess traumatism will delay the development of the tree.
