Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar


One of the oldest religious buildings in Buenos Aires is the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar. This Catholic church was built by the monks of the Order of Recoletos in 1732. The attraction is located in the square named after Saint Martin of Tours and bears the name of the most revered saint in the city.

What is interesting about the cathedral?

The building of the church was built in the Baroque style, and then painted in white. The central place in the temple is the statue of the Holy Virgin del Pilar.

At the basilica a museum is organized, storing a collection of historical documents and old books, religious utensils and vestments of the cathedral attendants, as well as numerous sculptures of saints.
