Beaches of Albania

In Albania there are two seas - the Adriatic and the Ionian. The variety of beaches in this country is able to satisfy any preferences of tourists: there are sandy and pebbly beaches, on flat beaches and among picturesque rocks, crowded and deserted, in cities and beyond.

Beaches of the Adriatic coast

If we are talking about the beaches of the Adriatic coast, first of all, we should note their common feature: they are all sandy, with a gentle and long sunset into the sea, because of which the sea water is well warmed up and the developing tourist infrastructure. These beaches are the best in Albania, although they are less popular with tourists, because they are in the northern region of the country. However, they are great for a family holiday.

The most famous and equipped beach areas of the Adriatic are in such cities as:

  1. Velipoya is a small town with an evolving infrastructure. Most of the beach of Velipoi is wild, untouched by civilization and little popular. There is a great opportunity to retire. Also, there are also equipped beaches with everything necessary for tourists.
  2. Shengin is a fairly developed resort area. The central part of the Shengjin beach is quite wide, to the south the sand strip is narrowed, but here begins a pine strip, which creates a pleasant shadow on the beach and saturates the air with pine flavor.
  3. Durres is the second largest city after the capital, which has many attractions and is close to Tirana, which allows you to combine beach holidays with active pastime. The beaches of Durres stretched along the coast for 11 km. They have a wide coastal strip and a huge number of hotels hiding in pine massifs, which are typical for this area. On the beaches of Durres there are conditions for diving, swimming in a mask and skating on a yacht.

Beaches of the Ionian coast

Most of the famous beaches of Albania are located on the Ionian coast - in the southern region of the country. Unlike the Adriatic, there are no sandy beaches, but extremely small pebbles and stony beaches. However, the cleanest sea, breathtaking mountain landscapes, as well as a large number of comfortable hotels every year make this region more popular. The most attractive are the following beaches along the Ionian Sea:

  1. In the city of Vlora - a lot of comfortable beaches, hotels, restaurants, entertainment and sightseeing programs. A little further from the city begins a strip of rocky beaches, beautiful landscapes and a quieter environment than in the city. The coastline between Vlora and Saranda was deservedly called the "Riviera of Flowers". Cities are surrounded by gardens and olive groves. Also, this "Albanian Riviera" is decorated with old villas that have been transformed into hotels.
  2. In the cities of Dermi and Himara , beaches beloved by many tourists for the incredible beauty of natural landscapes: there is no longer a continuous coastal strip, the beaches are located between rocks hanging over the sea. Transparent water and amazingly interesting seabed relief also attract people who want to relax.
  3. In Saranda - despite the fact that the beaches are located in the city, the sea water is clean and transparent. Excellent entertainment infrastructure: here you can ride a scooter, catamaran, water motorcycle. Along the coast there is an embankment, on both sides cased with palm trees, where tourists like to walk and where a lot of restaurants, cafes and children's attractions are located, that's why this resort is considered the best for resting with children .

Also there are many small beaches located in the suburban areas: Palyas, Draleos, Potami, Livadia and others. Entertainment for tourists here is not less: various parties are held, show programs, and for extreme sportsmen it is possible to descend on a paraglider from a height of 880 m above sea level (the Logara Pass) directly to the beach of Pallas.
