Begonia is the most popular tuber plant. In total, there are over a thousand of its varieties , which differ in the coloration of flowers: they are red, white, purple and orange. Begonia grows in a cluster way and has a height of about 15-25 cm. If you decided to grow begonia on your personal plot, then for its successful growth you should know how to plant a garden begonia and how to take care of it , because it is a rather whimsical plant, requiring a gardener skills.

Begonia perennial garden: planting, cultivation and care

When choosing the location of begonia on the site, preference should be given to shaded areas. In spite of the fact that begonia is a light-loving plant, it should not be planted in places exposed to direct sunlight.

If you made a decision that garden tuber begonia will grow on your dacha site, then planting should be done in June, when more or less warm weather will become permanent, because it is a heat-loving plant.

In the open ground can be planted as already purchased in the store seedlings, and independently grow it from seeds. In this case, the seeds begin to be cooked in the winter, placing them in a pot and covering them with a plastic bag or a glass jar. Seedlings are watered once a week until they are planted in the open ground.

In order for the plant to get better, it must be fertilized with peat, compost or any other mineral fertilizer, which includes phosphorus and potassium.

The soil needs to be constantly loosened to provide air access to the root system.

The plant loves a large amount of moisture, so watering the tuber begonia in summer is carried out once every two to three days, depending on the weather. If the summer is arid, then water should be more often. However, you should be careful when watering and avoid stagnation of water, otherwise the roots of begonia may begin to rot. To avoid this, you can make additional drainage to the bottom of the pit before landing begonia in the hole. In additional spraying of leaves, she does not need. This, on the contrary, can only harm its leaves, since brown spots can begin to appear on them.

With the onset of autumn, watering should be stopped.

In late October and early September the begonia tubers begin to dig. To do this, it is necessary to cut off the stems, leaving a small stump not longer than three centimeters. After this, the tubers must be dried for two weeks at room temperature. Then shake off the remains of the earth and stems from its roots, fill the tank containing the tubers with sand, and place it in a cool place, for example, in a refrigerator. In this condition, they can be stored for a long time until the onset of spring.

Next year it will be possible to start germinating tubers. To do this, take a small box, fill it with moistened sand and put it inside the tuber box. As soon as the first you need to cut the tuber in such a way that each part of it contains at least one kidney. Next, sprinkle slices with crushed charcoal, dry for two hours and then plant in pots prepared for seedlings. After the seedlings grow, they also start planting it in early June.

It should be remembered that with each year the tubers begin to increase in size, as a result, and the flowers themselves during the flowering period will differ in size.
