Brussels Airport

The capital of Belgium serves 2 airports - the Brussels international airport in Zaventem and the southern airport of Charleroi (used for regular flights and charter flights). Brussels National Airport Zaventem is located 11 kilometers from the city center, it is now considered the busiest terminal of Belgium, since the turnover of passengers is about 24 million people per year.

Its history goes back to the distant 1914, at the time of the invasion of the Germans into the country. A year later on the plain they built a hangar for airships. For a long time this hangar passed to the invaders and back, each time undergoing a thorough modernization. Immediately after the war, the airport became the center of civil aviation in the country. Now it is the main air terminal of Belgium.

Airport Infrastructure

Brussels Airport operates round the clock, it consists of a large passenger terminal, which is divided into two zones: one (A) receives flights from the Schengen countries, the other (B) - all the others.

Terminals form several levels. At the first level there is a railway station, public transport and taxis arrive at zero level, there are also storage rooms (the cost of the service is from 5 to 7.5 euros per day depending on the size of luggage). The second level is the actual arrival hall, for the convenience of passengers, there is a post office, a turofis and an ATM. On the second floor of Brussels Airport there are offices where you can rent a car . The fourth floor is called Promenade, it has most shops, cafes, bars and duty-free. On each floor there are racks with information and quite convenient pointers.

For comfortable stay of passengers Zaventem airport is equipped with pharmacies, beauty salons, a hall for meditations and prayers and a room for smoking. Fast food outlets also work at the airport. Within 30 minutes you can use free high-speed Wi-Fi, and for every subsequent half-hour of using the Internet you will be charged 6 euros.

Transit travel

If the airport in Brussels was a transit zone for you and you expect a landing on the next flight, you can easily find information on the flight you are interested in on the scoreboard and go to the landing site. Following from a non-European state also to a non-European country with a transfer in Brussels, you have the right not to use the Schengen visa only if you do not plan to leave the airport building.

If in the transit zone you have to make 2 or 3 transplants, then you will need a visa, since one flight in this case will be considered Intrashengen.
