Concept as a form of thinking

We think, and this already means that we have logic . A distinctive feature of the thinking process is the logical chain, which is responsible for the sequence of the brain performing such operations as analysis, comparison, synthesis, abstraction, generalization. The concept, as a form of thinking - is the most structurally simple fruit of thinking.

What is a concept?

The concept as a form of logical thinking arises when we give a definition to an object. The concept is "horse" or "scientific employee". Concepts do not exist without words, they are born in the form of a word / phrase and are pronounced verbally.

The concept reflects common features and distinguishes separate, distinctive features of the subject, which is the main idea of this form of thinking - to reflect the general and at the same time essential. The concept of a logical form of thinking can extend to phenomena, objects, creatures, as well as to imaginary, non-existent things.

The concept can be abstract and concrete.

The role of concepts

Concepts significantly simplify our lives, because they give names to objects. If there were no concepts, we would have to describe in our own words every object to explain. How would you describe a tree without naming a tree? The concept gives us the opportunity to speak in general. Speaking about birches, we should not specify that we are talking about the birch standing on the opposite bank of the river opposite the current. We say "birch" and mean plants that have common properties.

Abstract thinking and concept

The concept is the initial form of abstract thinking , since any thought can be expressed in the concept.

To create the concept, all the above-mentioned mental operations (abstraction, synthesis, analysis, etc.) are used, as well as sensation (all sensory feelings), perception and presentation.

For a concept as a form of abstract thinking, attributes are very important. Symptoms are both a way to generalize, and a way to distinguish. We can use the concept and the sign "sweet" for a list of all sweet items (sweet honey, sweet jam, bitter chocolate), but can also use for opposition (sweet honey - bitter tea).

Concepts have their own structure. The form of thinking concept has its volume and content.

Volume is all objects or phenomena that mean one concept. For example, the concept of "crime" implies all committed atrocities, because they all have common signs.

The content of the concept is a reflection of the essential features of an object. The concept of "crime" contains signs of aggression, illegality, punishment, guilt, danger, etc.
