Isofra is an antibiotic of local action, it is released in the form of a nasal spray. A drug is prescribed if the patient has a protracted runny nose against a background of an infection. Against viruses, antibiotics are ineffective, but if the cold lasts for more than a week and the discharge from the nose is yellowish green, then it's a bacterial infection, against which antibiotics are used. Also, drops of Isofra are used in the treatment of sinusitis, which is a fairly frequent complication for influenza, measles, scarlet fever and other infectious diseases.
Composition and shape of the drops in the nose
The main active substance of isofra is framicetin, an antibiotic from the group of aminoglycosides. 100 ml of the solution contains 1.25 g of active ingredient. In addition, the composition of the spray includes:
- methylparahydroxybenzoate;
- sodium chloride;
- purified water.
Despite the fact that the drug is often called a drop in the nose, in fact Isofra is a nasal spray. The drug is produced in plastic bottles with a volume of 15 milliliters, with a special nozzle for spraying.
Isofra Treatment
In most cases, antibiotics are prescribed when the nature of the infection is accurately known. Isofra is intended for topical application and acts locally, practically without getting into the bloodstream, therefore it is often used in doubtful cases, with suspicions of the bacterial nature of the infection. For example, Izofra is often used in the treatment of acute sinusitis of an unknown nature to prevent its overflow into a chronic form.
Drops of Isofra are recommended as a remedy for the common cold when:
- angina;
- infections of the upper respiratory tract of unknown etiology;
- acute pharyngitis;
- sinusitis;
- acute and chronic rhinitis ;
- nasopharyngitis;
- to prevent infection after surgery.
Usually the drug is used one injection in each nostril 4-6 times a day. The duration of treatment is from 7 to 10 days. Do breaks or stop treatment at the first sign of relief is undesirable, as with any other antibiotic. In addition, do not use the drug for more than 10 days, since it is possible to develop immunity to bacteria.
Side effects of the drug is not found, except in rare cases of an individual allergic reaction. Also, with prolonged use, the dysbacteriosis of the nasopharynx can develop.
