Euphorbia Euphorbia

We present to your attention one of the vast species of succulent plants, known collectively as Euphorbia Euphorbia. In nature, they grow in the African subtropics and on the island of Madagascar, differing in their fairly large sizes. Indoor flowers of this species are usually small, they differ with their decorative leaves and complex inflorescences.

Some types of euphorbia

In nature, there are about 2000 species of euphorbia, of which only 120 are ornamental. And even the houseplants among them are even smaller. Let's look at the most popular types of milkweed.

  1. Poinsettia or Euphorbia pulcherrima. One of the common indoor juveniles-annuals. Poinsettia is very difficult to maintain at home in the winter, so it is grown only until the end of flowering. The flowers of this plant are plain, but the leaves are large and bright green.
  2. Brilliant or Milk Mile. This is a pronounced succulent. It looks like a thorny bush with elongated leaves and a powerful stalk. Because of this, he was called a crown of thorns. Milk Mile requires a more nutritious soil than other species of this plant: it is added with compost or turf.
  3. Euphorbia fat. It is often confused with a cactus, since it has a spherical ribbed shape with outgrowths, which, however, are not completely prickly.
  4. Euphorbia bezolozhchaty . It looks like a palm tree. At home, it can grow to a height of 1.5 m. For leaves of white-clad euphorbia, a dark green color with white veins is characteristic.
  5. Euphorbia Pallas (Fisher) . This plant has healing qualities similar to ginseng. In Altai this type of euphorbia is widely used in folk medicine.

Euphorbia Euphorbia: Characteristics of Growth

Care for room jaundice euphorbia is simple. This plant likes a lot of bright light, so it is better to place it on the southern windows. As for the temperature, the optimum for growth is 22-25 °. The winter should be provided with a period of rest with decreasing temperature and very rare watering. In summer, the plant should be watered very moderately: it is better to dry it than pour it. But at the same time leafy species of milkweed need more watering than succulents without leaves.

A distinctive feature of any kind of euphorbia is that its milky juice is very toxic. Therefore, during transplantation and reproduction, it is necessary to handle the flower gently in order to prevent the juice from getting onto the skin and especially the mucous membranes. Also, be very careful if you have small children at home.

In the rest, the production of milkweed does not cause much trouble. Euforbia pleases the hosts with its unpretentiousness and durability.
