Fredensborg and surroundings

Construction of the castle Fredensborg was started by the order of King Frederick IV in 1720. The architect of the project was Johan Cornelius Krieger, who at that time worked in Rosenborg Castle as a gardener. Fredensborg was built in the style of French baroque, since the inauguration in 1722, it expanded and acquired new details. So, in 1726 the construction of the chapel was completed, and in 1731 - the building of the judicial office.

Travelers from Russia, for sure, will be interested to look at the Russian hall of the castle Fredensborg, where art objects related to our country are collected, for example, a portrait of Nicholas II or portraits of Margrethe II and her husband, painted by Russian artist DD Zhilinsky.

The garden is decorated with a lot of sculptures, among which there is an exposition named the Norwegian Valley, which includes 68 sculptures of Norwegian and Faroese fishermen and farmers. The garden is free to visit only in July, the rest of the time there can only be members of the royal family.
