The Grundtvigs Kirken or Grundtvigs Center is the Copenhagen Lutheran Church. The most recognizable religious landmark in Denmark . The church is named after the famous theologian and priest of Denmark Nikolai Frederik Severin Grundvig. The Grundtvig church is a rare example of the architectural style of brick expressionism.

Base

The Grundtvig church in Copenhagen is formed by the father and son of Jensen Clint. In 1913, the architect Peder Wilhelm Jensen Clint won a competition for the project of the future church. At that time the temple project was very original, such a world has not yet seen. The church was built at the expense of voluntary charitable donations, without state support. Also, during the construction of the church, hand-made brick was used, and the brickwork was made as close as possible to each other. Therefore, the church was built almost 20 years. The final erection of the church was carried out by the son of architect Kaare Klint. September 8, 1940, the inauguration of the church took place.

Initially conceived 1863 seats in the church. About 1500 in the nave and choir, and 150 in each passage and gallery. To date, the passage to the gallery is closed. On weekdays in the church about 750 seats, on holidays 1300 chairs are put up.
  2. Altar. They built an altar in the same yellow stone as the rest of the church. It was designed by Kaare Clint according to the sketches of his father. Pay attention to the seven-brass cast brass. He is a copy of the seven-candle from a gilded tree, which was on the temporary tower of the church until the 1960s.
  3. Font. The font was developed by Jensen Clint. It is carved from lime and consists of eight shells in antique style. In each brass font there are monograms with quotations from the Bible.
  4. Ship. In the stormy waters of life, with Christ at the helm, the ship is an ancient symbol of salvation for the church. Many Danish churches have special gifts from sailors. Nave of Grundtvig church is a model of the world's first four-masted ship built in Glasgow in 1903. Also in the church there is a model of this ship in scale 1:35, which in 1939 was created by Captain Almsted and presented to the church.
  5. Organs. In the northern part of the church there is a small organ that was built in 1940 by Marcussen and his son according to the design of Kaar Clint. The body has 14 votes and 2 registers.
