Goianicotes

In the west of Namibia, along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, there is the Dorob National Park with a length of 1600 km. One of its main decorations is Goianikotes - a picturesque oasis, bringing freshness and coolness to this desert landscape.

History of Goianicotta

Many years ago the territory of this oasis began to be populated by people from different African tribes. Until that moment, it served as a resting place for many African elephants and ostriches. Local residents began to use an oasis for growing crops and buffaloes. In the documents of 1925 Goianikotes was mentioned as "Canecundas Farm".

For a long time this fertile territory was divided into two sections. Their unification occurred only in 2009, when most of the lands of Goianikotes were purchased by businessman Winfried Fabten Metzger. He ennobled this territory, built cafes, restaurants and a swimming pool for tourists.

Features of Goianicottes

Oasis is located near the Swakop River in a small valley, closed from the winds by low mountains. If you look at Goianikotes from a height, you can see that it is the only islet of greenery in the entire Dorob National Park. This became possible due to the close location to the river and small ponds.

The flora of the Goianicot oasis is represented in the form of palm trees, eucalyptus trees, shrub plants and lichens. Here flies a huge number of birds, including the Damarin tern, which is found only in Namibia.

Infrastructure Goianicotta

Thanks to the activities of the businessman Winfried Fabten Metzger this oasis of wildlife has turned into a cozy tourist place. Goanikontes Oasis Rest Camp, which consists of several comfortable camps, operates in Goianikotes.

The tourist area is equipped with:

The service is conducted in English, German and Afrikaans. It is allowed to stop tourists traveling with pets. Turning to the camping administration, you can organize a themed party or wedding (up to 120 people) on the territory of the oasis.

Goianicots is a unique natural object that gives an opportunity to get acquainted with the African desert without depriving itself of the usual amenities. Here you can go in for hiking, relax in clean and tidy houses built in the traditional style for this area, sit on the veranda in the shade of tall palm trees and eucalyptus trees.
