How to choose linoleum for an apartment in quality?

Linoleum - a fairly common and sought-after flooring. It can be found in apartments, shops, offices, medical institutions, schools, and kindergartens. It is absolutely appropriate everywhere, but only to the process of choosing the right linoleum you need to approach with all responsibility, because there are many of its varieties, suitable for this or that case.

How to choose the right linoleum for an apartment?

Speaking about how to choose a good, high-quality linoleum in an apartment or in a house, you need to understand that even here in different rooms it must meet different selection criteria. So, the hallway and the bedroom have a completely different degree of load and patency, which means that the linoleum can be different in these rooms.

Today there is a considerable variety of linoleum coverings. They can be made of natural and synthetic materials, have a different substrate, different thickness, withstand the load on a scale of 1 to 4, be different in the abrasion group and many other parameters.

So, choosing a cover, you need, first and foremost, to focus on the type of room where it will lie. If it is a kitchen - linoleum should have good resistance to wear, have a protective coating, which simplifies the cleaning process. The same applies to linoleum for the hallway and corridor. Since these rooms are highly mobile, the coating should have a thickness of at least 3 mm.

In these rooms, you can use a household linoleum on a polyvinyl chloride base or semi-commercial linoleum, which has higher strength characteristics.

If linoleum is bought for a children's room, it is desirable to choose it on a natural basis with an additional antibacterial coating. It is harmless to the baby, because it has no chemical additives, especially since the contained silver ions destroy all germs that fall on the floor.

For the living room, where the patency is moderate, the optimal choice is linoleum with a thickness of 1.5 mm. And since the probability of mechanical damage to the floor is small, you can do with PVC-based linoleum or even an inexpensive polyester household linoleum.

For a bedroom the linoleum too can be thin - 1,2-1,5 mm. The passage in this room is small, so the best choice is a household polyester or polyvinyl chloride linoleum.

Tips on how to choose linoleum for an apartment in quality:

  1. First of all, thinking about what it is better to choose linoleum for an apartment, listen to your own feelings: if the linoleum emits a sharp smell, this indicates its low quality. Most likely, it has a lot of chemical additives, harmful to health. Even synthetic linoleum, if it's of good quality, does not smell of anything. Also, look at it - it should not be too shiny, and the picture on it should be clear.
  2. Take into account the width of the coating bed - it must match the size of the room or be a multiple of it. Take linoleum always with a margin to fit the pattern. Do not forget to take into account the rapids, niches and other ledges in the rooms.
  3. Ask the store (and it's always better to buy it in the store, not the market) to show certificates for compliance with safety standards - the so-called hygienic certificate.
  4. Always check the quality of linoleum in expanded form, only so you will see if there are no waves and bumps on it, detachments of the top layer and other marriages.
  5. Always buy the whole linoleum from one batch, because it can differ in color, even if the articles on the package match.
