How to do decoupage?

How to do decoupage on a tree?

Wooden surface must be prepared for decoration. Putty or any unevenness with ground coat or ordinary putty. And after sanding. If we want to preserve the woody pattern, we cover the surface with one layer of clear varnish, if the pattern is not needed - primed with white (light) acrylic paint.

After preparing the surface, you can proceed directly to the decor. To do this, we cut out the image you liked from a napkin, a decoupage card, a postcard, a photograph, or a picture printed on a printer.

If you want to use a photo or a postcard, then the drawing should be soaked in water, and then roll down the bottom layers, since only the top layer with the image will be needed for work. We use only the uppermost layer of napkins. And if we want to print the picture on the printer, then we do it on thin paper.

The cut out pattern is greased with glue and pressed to the surface. Carefully with a cloth, smooth the irregularities and remove excess glue.

We allow to dry and cover with a transparent acrylic lacquer.

How to do decoupage on plastic?

The plastic surface must be degreased with alcohol. If the plastic is slippery, then sand it with fine sandpaper. Then we put a layer of gypsum primer. Let's dry and sand. Further actions are the same as for decoupage of a wooden surface.

How to do decoupage on the glass?

When working with glass, there are 2 types of decoupage, direct and reverse. With direct decoupage, the picture is glued to the outside of the product, with the opposite - to the inside. Before this, degrease the surface with alcohol. Professionals advise also to apply a transparent primer for glass, but you can do without it and immediately glue the picture. It is better to take images from napkins, because the rest of the paper is too thick to work with glass. Napkin motifs are too pale, so they can be tinted with acrylic paints. In reverse decoupage, the back part is usually painted with a light paint and varnished. If you are doing direct decoupage, then do not forget that all the inscriptions, additional drawings are made before applying the varnish.

How to do decoupage of furniture?

Decoupage of furniture is done in the same way as when working with wooden surfaces, it's another matter if you want to age the object. How to make decoupage under the old days? The first steps are standard, but after gluing the picture you will need to work a little with the varnish to age the surface - craquelure, we need a two-step. On the places that we want to age, we apply the varnish (the first phase), without touching the picture, and let it dry. In the saucer we mix the second phase of the varnish and a couple of drops of liquid soap and apply it over the first layer. The thicker layer you apply, the wider will be the cracks. After completely drying, rub the oil paint, we remove the excess.

How to do volume decoupage?

Volume decoupage can be done both on the cardboard, and on the surface of the table, for example. Only in the latter case, all the beauty will need to be covered with glass to be able to use the table as intended. Volume decoupage differs from the usual one in that not one image is used. For example, you want to make several petals in a flower more convex, so you need to take 3-4 copies of them and sequentially paste them one on another. Also in voluminous decoupage, the use of paints is welcomed to create a more realistic image. In general, you can do everything to make the picture seem the most believable.

How to make glue for decoupage?

Of course, it's easier to use special glue for decoupage, but you can use PVA, diluted with water or glue-pencil. And when working with glass, you can paste a picture on egg white. Also sometimes it is advised to weld a starch paste, but it is not always convenient to use it.
