How can you propagate gooseberries?
There are many ways of reproduction of gooseberry, but the most simple and widespread are vegetative:
- reproduction of gooseberry by layers;
- reproduction of gooseberries cuttings.
Let us briefly consider each of them. Reproduction by layers is the most favorite way for gardeners. It can be propagated by horizontal, vertical and arc-shaped layers. This method involves the rooting of individual branches of the uterine bush. In this case, the bush should not be older than 10 years.
Root one-year shoots, because two- and perennial branches do not take root. Their early spring is removed from the bush, leaving the 3-4 youngest branches. The layers are rooted in the loosened soil, sprinkled with mineral fertilizers.
For breeding by layers, the following are suitable:

There are several variants of the propagation of gooseberry cuttings: green, lignified and combined cuttings. Reproduction of gooseberries with combined cuttings has several advantages. So, this way multiplies most varieties. In addition, this method does not necessarily maintain the humidity of air and soil, and the rooting is not affected by the length of growth in one year.
