Hypomanic psychosis

One of the most controversial disorders is hypomanic psychosis. The fact that a layman is very difficult to determine its presence, many suffering from the disease, are perceived by their environment as absolutely healthy people, perhaps somewhat more energetic than usual. In addition, a person suffering from hypomaniacal syndrome does not consider his condition painful, and therefore does not hurry to consult a specialist. And this leads to the further development of the problem, therefore, one should not underestimate the frustration.

Symptoms and Treatment

Hypomanic psychosis is very similar to the previous phase of bipolar disorder - mania , only all traits are of somewhat lesser severity. People do not lose touch with reality and do well with daily duties, they do not have hallucinations and delusions. From the outside, and it's difficult to notice any irregularity in behavior - a person looks only a little more energetic and cheerful than usual. He can manage a lot of what was previously unavailable, he can sleep 4 hours a day and feel fine. Occasionally the person himself notices the abnormality of his condition and tries to normalize him, but this does not lead to the proper results, only prolonging the course of the disorder. Further, the hypomaniacal syndrome passes to the culmination stage, when a person loses the ability to control himself. His thinking is a collection of associations caused by an accidental connection. Moreover, thoughts are generated feverishly, without giving a sober assessment of what is happening. In this case, hospitalization is required to relieve such acute symptoms. The speech of a person at this stage may be incoherent, reminiscent of the form in schizophrenic rupture. The danger of hypomaniacal psychosis is also in the fact that this condition is only transitional to the depressive phase of the disorder, which is characterized by a very severe course. Therefore, in this case it is necessary to apply to a specialist.

Treatment is often difficult, mainly due to the fact that a person does not feel the need for help, so he is inclined to refuse to follow the course, which is very important for a successful exit from the state. To help the patient, a complex approach is usually used with the use of medicines and psychotherapeutic techniques.
