Indapamide is a drug in the form of coated tablets, which refers to the pharmacological group of thiazide-like diuretics (diuretics). This is a new generation drug that does not affect the metabolism in the body and is well tolerated by patients.
What is Indapamide used for?
Indications for the use of tablets Indapamide is arterial hypertension. Typically, the drugs of this group, which includes Indopamide, are the medicines of choice for hypertension in the following cases:
- in elderly patients;
- with isolated systolic hypertension (when only the "upper" blood pressure is increased);
- with existing concomitant heart failure;
- with osteoporosis .
Composition and pharmacological action of Indapamide
The active substance of the drug is indapamide hydrochloride. As an auxiliary, Indapamide included
- such substances:
- lactose monohydrate;
- magnesium stearate;
- povidone K30;
- sodium lauryl sulfate;
- crospovidone;
- methylhydroxypropyl cellulose;
- macrogol;
- titanium dioxide;
- talc.
Indapamide increases the elasticity of the walls of the arteries, reduces the overall peripheral resistance of blood vessels, helps to reduce hypertrophy of the left ventricle of the heart. The drug does not affect carbohydrate metabolism and lipid levels in the blood plasma (including patients with diabetes mellitus). Taking the drug in the recommended therapeutic doses has only a hypotensive effect without a significant increase in the volume of excreted urine.
The dosage of Indapamide
Indapamide, as a rule, take one tablet once a day, without chewing. It is recommended to take tablets in the morning, at the same time. The hypotensive effect develops towards the end of the first week of admission and reaches a maximum after three months of drug use.
Contraindications to the appointment of Indapamide
This medication is contraindicated in the following cases:
- pregnancy and lactation;
- severe hepatic impairment;
- severe renal failure (with anuria);
- hypokalemia;
- individual intolerance of the drug components.
With caution Indapamide is prescribed for hyperparathyroidism, impaired renal and hepatic function, water-electrolyte balance malfunction, hyperuricemia, and diabetes mellitus during decompensation.
