Eyelets with their own hands

Eyelets are metal or plastic cylinders with hats that are used for edging holes on different materials. Often this hardware is equipped with a washer (substrate-ring). The diameter, color, shape, material and length of the stem can be anything, which makes eyelets an ideal decor element.

The variety of luxury fabrics in specialized stores makes us think about the fact that the interior of the house can be made unique. And, with their own forces. Very beautiful look a variety of lambrequins , decorated with eyelets. It is decorated, because the eyelets perform not only a practical function, but also give the products a complete look. In addition, eyelets are used in the manufacture of banners, stretch awnings, various laces on clothes and shoes, belts, leather goods, bracelets, travel equipment, paper bags, and handicrafts.

If the installation of eyelets in the product you purchased is not initially provided, then this does not mean that nothing can be done. In any workshop you will be able to pierce the eyelets both on clothes, and on shoes, curtains. Of course, you will have to pay for these services. But the installation of eyelets at home will be cheaper.

We offer an uncomplicated master class, having become acquainted with which to install the eyelets with your own hands, both on curtains and on any other products you can without problems.

We will need:

  1. Towards the upper edge of the curtains, cut off the piece of the ribbon.
  2. Turn the edge of the curtain over the ribbon and iron it with an iron. Keep track of the temperature of the sole to avoid damage to the product! Unscrew the edge and iron it again.
  3. Place the eyelet in the selected place and mark the circle with the pencil in the inner diameter. Cut out this circle, having retreated from the edge about 5 millimeters.
  4. The lower part of the eyelet (washer-lining) is placed under the curtain, aligning it with the carved circle. The fabric should find a little on the inner edges of the eyelet. Take care that there are no gaps!
  5. It remains only to put a decorative detail on top and squeeze it well (until it clicks). The eyelet is installed!

Calculating the distance between the eyelets

If you need to install not one grommet, then you should correctly calculate the optimal distance between them. To do this, from the width of the curtains take 6 centimeters to process the slices on the sides, then subtract from the resulting value of another 5 centimeters, and the resulting value should be divided by the number of eyelets minus one (if the eyelets, for example, 7, then divide by 6). The value that is obtained, and will be equal to the distance between two adjacent eyelets, that is, their centers. Usually for small eyelets it is 10-12 centimeters, and for large ones - 15-20 centimeters.

Useful recommendations

When installing the eyelets, consider the coefficient of the curtain assembly on the eaves. Usually it is equal to 2, that is, a meter long cornice is taken at least two meters of fabric (wide). The number of eyelets on the curtain must be even, since otherwise the edges of the curtains will be deployed in opposite directions, which does not look very aesthetically.

When installing eyelets, the use of the tape is mandatory, since without it the fabric of the curtain will be wrinkled and deformed. In addition, it is not necessary to install eyelets at a distance of less than 5 centimeters from the edge of the curtain to avoid sagging.
