history of the holiday

The purpose of the celebration is to show respect for the workers in the field of standardization, metrology and certification, as well as a better understanding of the importance of standards in all spheres of human life at the international level.

ISO or the International Organization for Standardization is the most important body that oversees and enforces global standards. It was established on October 14, 1946 in the process of holding a conference of national standards organizations in London . Practical activity of ISO began in six months and since that time more than 20 thousand various standards have been printed.

Initially, the ISO was composed of representatives from 25 countries, including the Soviet Union. At the moment, this number has reached 165 member countries. Membership of a particular country can be both full-fledged and limited in terms of the level of influence on the work of the organization.

In addition to ISO, the International Electrotechnical Commission and the International Telecommunication Union participate in the development of international standards. The first organization focuses on standards in the field of electrical engineering and electronics, the second - telecommunications and radio. It is possible to single out a number of other organizations that cooperate in this direction at the regional and interregional level.

The International Standardization and Metrology Day is held every year in accordance with a certain theme. Based on the theme of the holiday, the national representatives organize a variety of cultural and educational activities. And some countries have established their own dates for the celebration of the standardization day.
