Ispaniola Island


The island of Hispaniola is the southernmost island of the Galapagos . It was named after Spain, its second name, no less famous - Hood. The area of ​​the island is relatively small, about 60 square kilometers. He appeared thanks to the games of nature, it was spawned by a volcano, like the rest of the archipelago. Espanola is a classic example of a thyroid volcano, formed by a single caldera in the center of the island itself. Over time, it has died out and today does not disturb the calm life of representatives of local flora and fauna. The island's age is 3.5 million years. It is considered the oldest of all the Galapagos Islands.

The island is considerably remote from the main group of islands, due to which the local fauna feels calm here. On Hispaniola inhabited rare even for the Galapagos animals. For example, the Galapagos albatross. These large birds perfectly feel, perhaps, only in these places. Steep and inaccessible rocks for many birds can seem dangerous, but not for these albatrosses.
