Kidney abscess is a very serious focal inflammatory disease that is characterized by the formation of a cavity in the kidney filled with purulent contents. Often the disease occurs as a complication of acute pyelonephritis.
Causes of kidney abscess

Symptoms of kidney abscess
Pathology is characterized by the following symptoms:
- a sharp increase in body temperature to 39-40 degrees, chills;
- severe pain in the lumbar region, which is enhanced by palpation;
- rapid pulse;
- intermittent breathing;
- symptoms of general intoxication of the body, such as headache, muscle weakness, malaise;
- increased thirst and vomiting;
- difficulty and painful urination;
- increased sweating;
- possibly lowering blood pressure.
Often patients with a kidney abscess assume the "embryo pose", that is, pull the legs to the abdomen to ease the pain syndrome. With the spontaneous breakthrough of the abscess into the renal pelvis in the urine, there is the appearance of pus and / or blood.
Treatment of kidney abscess
Modern medicine offers several ways to treat kidney abscess:
- administration of antibiotics by intravenous injection;
- puncture through the skin with drainage;
- operation.
Unfortunately, conservative methods of treatment of kidney abscesses do not always give the expected effect and often lead to serious complications, up to a lethal outcome. Therefore, an operative method of treating this ailment remains the main one in medical practice.
During the operation, the fibrous capsule is removed, the abscess is opened, and the operated part of the organ is treated with an antiseptic solution. Purulent contents are drained through drainage tubes and sent for bacteriological analysis.
