Museum of Urban Transport

The Luxembourg City Transport Museum was opened in March 1991, on the 27th, and was placed in an old barn, which was restored in a bus park. The appearance of the museum is very similar to the old tram depot. In this interesting museum it is worth to visit to learn the history of the development of public transport of the country, from the very first horse-drawn carriages to modern, beautiful models of trams and buses.

Exposition of the museum

Since the early 1960s, those who worked in the transport system have slowly begun to collect the first elements of the collection, which are currently in the museum. During this period, there was also a dismantling of the tram network, which was gradually replaced by buses. Thus, a certain sense of nostalgia for the old trams was created, which gave impetus to the development of the collection associated with that era.

There is a Museum of Urban Transport in the capital , in the south-western part of it. Its exposition, which began in the sixties, includes four original tram cars. In addition, the museum has a modern version of the wagon-horse.

To the interesting exhibits of the museum can also be attributed car-tower, which was used for official purposes, and a couple of buses in excellent condition. These old cars were restored and carefully preserved. And in 1975, during the construction of the first stage of the bus station, a small room was equipped to accommodate the engine removed from the transport and several other special parts from the old transport that exist in the current exposition.

In addition, the exposition has a huge number of photos and various documents, as well as many interesting tablets and memos. There you can admire the service form of workers, tunics, ties, caps and even buttons.

Another among the exhibits can be mentioned twenty-two miniature models, created by the images of old trams. In 1963, for the celebration of the Millennium of the city of Luxembourg, and in 1964, when the last voyage of an electric tram was made, mock-ups of trams were created in the transport service workshops, which became part of the exhibition.

On the other hand, there are still cars and buses that are awaiting recovery. And the leadership of the Department of city buses and is now seeking to replenish the collection and asks all those who can transfer to the museum the documents that can enrich the collection of the museum.
