Neumünster Abbey

In the heart of Europe, the city of Luxembourg , there are so many treasures that you can not even imagine. Of course, there are, of course, not real treasures, but those places that you visit once, you remember for a long time. The Abbey of Neumünster abbey is just one of them.

The history of the abbey

The abbey was built by the monks of the Order of Benedict in 1606. To do this they were forced by circumstances. The old abode of the Benedictines was destroyed. No luck and the new building. In 1684, the fire severely damaged the Abbey of Neumünster, but a few years later it was restored, and then in 1720 even expanded.

Once did not use the abbey. At the French there was a prison and a police station, with the Prussians a barracks. During the Second World War, the Germans also used the building in their own way. Finally in 1997 it became the habitat of the European Institute of Cultural Routes. And in May 2004, after a thorough renovation, it opened its doors to the public as a Cultural Center.

Our days

Now in the Cultural Center there are all kinds of exhibitions, concerts, seminars, musical performances and other events. From a cold, dark prison, thanks to the work of the architects, this building has turned into a bright space with an abundance of light wood and glass items.

How to get there?

The Abbey is in the center of the capital of Luxembourg , in the Grund quarter. To get to it is easiest on the street Trev.
