The museum building was designed by the well-known architect, the owner of the Pritzker Prize and one of the creators of the famous Louvre pyramid. The museum was inaugurated on July 1, 2006, and since then it hosts visitors eager to inspect it from inside and out. The name of the museum is The Musee d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, abbreviated to MUDAM. This word was originally intended to be used for the official site of the museum, but it quickly took root as the name of the museum and is now used, including in official cases.

The museum is located in the Kichberg quarter, in the north-eastern part of the city , in a park between two business districts. You can get here by car, taxi or public transport through one of the streets of Rue de Neudorf or Avenue John F. Kennedy (the road will take no more than 15 minutes). The museum starts work from 11 o'clock, and closes at 18 o'clock on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays and at 20 o'clock on the remaining days.
