The history of the appearance of the Luxembourg Museum
The idea of creating a museum of contemporary art arose in 1989 - it put forward the Prime Minister of Luxembourg Jacques Santer. The occasion for the construction of the museum was the anniversary of the reign of the Grand Duke Jacques, who at that time had been in power for a quarter of a century. However, the place where the building of one of the main museums of Luxembourg will be built, has become the topic of numerous heated discussions. We agreed this issue only by 1997.
The museum building was designed by the well-known architect, the owner of the Pritzker Prize and one of the creators of the famous Louvre pyramid. The museum was inaugurated on July 1, 2006, and since then it hosts visitors eager to inspect it from inside and out. The name of the museum is The Musee d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, abbreviated to MUDAM. This word was originally intended to be used for the official site of the museum, but it quickly took root as the name of the museum and is now used, including in official cases.
Museum MUDAM - the pearl of Luxembourg
The first thing that surprises the tourist when visiting the museum is its unusual architectural style. The museum is built of glass and metal, and its futuristic design completely reflects the unusual content. All floors of the main tier are glass, so most of the halls have natural lighting. How to get to the Museum of MUDAM in Luxembourg?
The museum is located in the Kichberg quarter, in the north-eastern part of the city , in a park between two business districts. You can get here by car, taxi or public transport through one of the streets of Rue de Neudorf or Avenue John F. Kennedy (the road will take no more than 15 minutes). The museum starts work from 11 o'clock, and closes at 18 o'clock on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays and at 20 o'clock on the remaining days. On Tuesdays at the Museum of MUDAM in Luxembourg, it's a day off.
