What is unique about this protected area?

The Ogasawara National Park is located 1900 km south of the capital of Japan, the city ​​of Tokyo , on the archipelago of the same name. Ogasawara Islands, also known as Boninsky, include a group of islands of volcanic origin: Titidzima, Hahajima and Mukojima.

The national park is located between the tropical and subtropical zones. Thanks to this, you can see magnificent landscapes, mountain ranges covered with tropical vegetation, large cliffs destroyed by natural phenomena, and untouched forests.

Animal and plant life

Ogasawara National Park often conducts scientific research. According to the latest data, 440 species of various plants are registered on the islands, 160 of which are vascular endemics, and 88 are related to woody endemics.

Of 40 species of freshwater, the only mammal is the extinction of Bonin's flying fox. Among the birds there are 195 rare species, including 14, listed in the Red Book. Tourists can meet only two species of land reptiles, one of which is endemic. In the park, there are about one and a half thousand species of insects and 135 species of land snails.

The underwater world is no less diverse, about 800 species of ocean fishes, 23 species of cetaceans and more than 200 species of reef-forming corals are noted in the waters of Ogasawara.

How to get to the park?

Land and air transport to get to the archipelago of Ogasawara is impossible. To admire the beauty of the national park, you need to sail on a ship from Tokyo for about 30 hours. However, such a trip is undoubtedly worth the time.
