In the northern part of Sweden is the largest national park Padelantha (Padjelanta). It belongs to the Norrbotten line and borders on Norway .
general information
The reserve zone was founded in 1962 with the support of the Swedish Riksdag. Padelant has an area of 1984 square meters. km. Together with neighboring national parks ( Sarek , Muddus, Stur-Shephalet ) and natural reserves (Stubba and Siaunia), it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as the Lapland zone - Laponia.
The landscape of the reserve is open and quite flat, it has a good view of the landscape. Padelanta National Park is located on a large plateau, which consists of a hilly plain, mountain ranges and two large ponds:
- Virihaur (Virihávrre) - is considered the most beautiful lake in the country;
- Vastenjaure.
The contrast of the surface is enhanced by extensive meadows, birch forests, glaciers and swamps. The name of the nature protection zone came from the word Badjelánnda, which can be translated from Lule-Saami as "higher than the earth".
Inhabitants of the national park
Padielante has a fairly rich and diverse flora. There are about 400 species of plants and animals, many of which are endemic. In the territory of the national park there live the indigenous Saami people, however, in small numbers. Aborigines are engaged in reindeer breeding and fishing. With their life and life you can meet in the villages:
- Sirges;
- Jahkagaska;
- Duerbun.
Features of visit
To ensure that tourists do not violate the ecology and natural wildlife of the park, but the visit was interesting for them, the leadership of Padelanty created a complex of measures to protect the institution and the development of infrastructure. Throughout the territory for travelers built special houses in which you can spend the night and wait out the bad weather.
The most popular route in the national park is Padelantaden, which has a total length of about 150 km. Visitors here:
- they will see the mountains of Akhk;
- will visit a small village of Kvikzhok;
- look at the pastures of deer;
- will pass along the Nordkalotrut trail.
For those travelers who wish to see the Padielante from a bird's-eye view, the administration of the National Park offers a helicopter flight for a small fee. Come here for a day, so as not to hurry around to look around and get to know the local nature and sights.
How to get there?
In order to get to Padelant National Park, you will need to first reach the nearest settlements Njunjes, Kvikkjokk and Suorva. From there you can go sightseeing with an organized excursion or hire a guide with transport , since the road here is difficult to reach. The journey takes up to 2 hours.
