Paul Klee is a Swiss and German artist. He died in 1940, at the age of 60 years. He is recognized as one of the largest figures of European avant-gardism. The idea of opening the museum belonged to Alexander Klee, the grandson of the famous artist. The realization of the project became possible thanks to the charitable contribution of the Müller family.
The building itself deserves special attention. According to the idea of the creator, it allegedly repeats the surrounding landscape - smooth lines are in harmony with the surrounding hills museum. When building it was also taken into account that the artist's paintings are sensitive to light, therefore part of the structure is underground. Each of the "hills" of the building has its own task. The space of the Paul Klee Center can be changed using movable partitions, thus creating a labyrinth, on the walls of which the artist's canvases hang. The museum itself is located near the cemetery of Shosshalde, where the creator is buried.

The Center opened in June 2005. This event was of great importance in the museum life of the 21st century. The Paul Klee Center in Berne for the first time introduced the concept of a modern museum as a cultural forum. The artist's artistic heritage includes more than 9 thousand paintings, 4 thousand of which are kept in the museum. Interestingly, the exhibition is constantly changing, since no more than 150 paintings of the creator are exhibited at a time. It was this diagnosis that took the famous artist out of life. Among the exhibits are tables with instruments and various devices that allow visitors to feel the tragedy of sick people deprived of the possibility of active life.
The Paul Klee Center in Bern regularly hosts exhibitions and other artists. For example, in 2006 an exposition dedicated to the work of Max Beckman was opened. In addition, the museum formed its own musical ensemble "Klee Ensemble", which periodically performs in the local concert hall. In the same place choreographic and theatrical performances are performed, which the ensemble accompanies.
Surrounds the center of Paul Klee park area, in some of its corners are placed sculptures that mattered in the artist's life. From the museum to the park are the so-called Klee roads, which are accompanied by memorial plates.
