Periodontitis - symptoms and treatment

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that affects the connective tissue that fills the narrow space between the tooth and its bone bed. It occurs when infection from the root canal. This is a very dangerous disease, because if you do not notice the symptoms of periodontitis and do not start treatment, the inflammation can spread to the root of the tooth or the bone around it.

Symptoms of periodontitis

Immediately need to turn to the dentist and begin treatment of periodontitis at home, when there are such symptoms:

If against the background of these signs the patient becomes easier, to cancel the visit to the doctor is not necessary. Most likely, this means that the fluid flows into the bone tissue. If there is no treatment for periodontitis at this stage, the bone around the root of the tooth will begin to resolve and a cyst is formed in the jaw. It can become a source of poisoning the body with various products of the disintegration of its own cells, which are carried very quickly through the blood.

Treatment of chronic periodontitis

Treatment of chronic granulating or granulomatous periodontitis is performed in the dental office for several visits. On the first admission the doctor:

  1. Makes a diagnostic X-ray.
  2. Anesthetizes the affected area.
  3. Removes soft tissue inflammation products from the root canal and creates access to the mouths of the root canals.
  4. Measures the length of the root canals.
  5. It processes the root canals, slightly widening them to be able to seal them qualitatively, and rinses all solutions with antiseptics.
  6. In the root canal is introduced a cotton turund, previously impregnated with a strong antiseptic (for example, Cresophene).
  7. Imposes a temporary seal .

After this, at home, the patient should be treated with periodontitis, antibiotic, antihistamine and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The choice of drugs is carried out depending on the type and severity of clinical symptoms.

At the next appointment with a doctor:

  1. The temporary seal is removed.
  2. A control X-ray is taken.
  3. Channels are washed with antiseptics (Sodium Hypochloride or Chlorhexidine).
  4. Constant tooth filling is carried out.

Treatment of acute periodontitis

Severe pain and the presence of pus in the canals are the main symptoms of acute periodontitis, so treatment of this form of the disease begins with the outflow of purulent contents from the periodontal and removes signs of intoxication in the body. For this, an X-ray is taken and the necrotic pulp is removed under anesthesia. The temporary filling is not applied after this, because the tooth should remain "open" until the next visit.

To reduce the symptoms of intoxication against the background of purulent inflammation, after the first a doctor should use a special paste for the treatment of periodontitis Metronidazole and antihistamines (Tavegil or Suprastin). On the next visit, the dentist will fill the canals and make a control x-ray.

If the inflammatory process is of a strong nature, surgical methods for treating periodontitis are used. Most often, resection of the tip of the root of the tooth. During this operation, the surgeon cuts the gum, exfoliates the mucous tissue and, having access to the bone, removes all infected tissues. After this, the tip of the channel is sealed and seams are applied.
