Planting pears in autumn

Most gardeners are beginning to renovate the garden and plant new trees in the spring. In this article, we will consider the advantages of an autumn seeding, in particular pears. Often this period is neglected because they do not know how to plant a pear in the fall. But if you follow a few simple rules, your efforts will definitely be crowned with success.

Advantages of planting pears in autumn

  1. It is easier to choose a quality planting material in the fall period. The seedlings already have a developed root system to this period, fully matured wood.
  2. In autumn, the choice of varieties is much broader, and their cost is lower. You will be able to purchase a reliable planting material and the probability of its survival is much higher.
  3. In the autumn period there are more chances to find exactly two-year or one-year-old seedlings, which are best suited. It is in them the root and aboveground parts are developed approximately equally and the central root during excavation is much better preserved.
  4. In autumn the earth remains warm, which allows the tree to settle down. In the spring, you plant trees in the frozen and not yet warmed earth, and therefore the probability of the death of the seedlings is much higher.

How to plant a pear in the fall?

That all your efforts were justified, you should carefully observe a few simple, but very important moments of planting a pear in the fall. The first step is to prepare a landing place. If you are accustomed to planting pome fruits exclusively in planting pits, their size should be at least 60 cm in depth, and a diameter of the order of a meter. The more the pit prepared, the longer your seedling will be provided with a favorable period for adaptation.

There is another way how to plant a pear in the fall. It turns out that you can do without a landing pit. It is sufficient to make a depression in the earth the size of the root system of a tree. In some cases, the seedlings are placed in a well-loosened soil, then all of this is sprinkled with soil from the top and the hill is slightly expanded.

One of the rules for planting a pear using a pit is its correct digging. Walls should be only sheer, beforehand there should be a layer of fertile soil. Digging should be done in advance, because in time the depth will increase due to subsidence of the soil, which can lead to the death of the root system.

Separately, we should dwell on how to properly plant a pear in autumn on loamy soils. We excavate the pit twice as much and lay out pieces of wood, cardboard or chips at least 30 cm deep in the bottom. Then pour a layer of turf and pour the layers with sawdust with lime. Next, fill the garden land.

Care of the pear after planting

After the work is done and the seedling is already in his permanent place, care should be taken to ensure that he is properly serviced. One of the most important moments in this business is the pruning of the pear after planting. This is especially important for varieties with a curved or one-sided crown. Pruning is to ensure that each leaflet receives enough sunlight in the summer. In general, the tree is light-loving and needs good lighting. To do this, all the branches that grow inside the crown, should be cut without regret. There is an opinion, that it is necessary to remove the lower branches, since they will not be harvested in any way. In fact, the harvest there is not only for the reason that there is not enough sunlight.

When planting a pear, carefully inspect all the branches. If you notice those that will further obscure other twigs, they need to be removed, the rest can be left.

After planting, it is necessary to water abundantly the trees. After the earth a little settles and voids are formed, they should be sprinkled with a new layer of earth. Be sure to cover the ground around the seedling to protect it.
