Pugs: care

Have you got a pug? We congratulate you, because you have acquired not only a popular decorative dog, but also a loyal, devoted friend!

Before you name the pug, pay attention to his character. What is it? Valyazhny, playful or punctilious? These features will tell you the name. Remember that a pug is not an evil guard dog, so choose a calm, good-natured nickname. However, it should be euphonious, because you will have to face this name for many years.

Feeding Pugs

If your puppy is less than 2 months old, feed it 5-6 times a day. The ration should include raw finely chopped beef (not minced), cottage cheese (diluted with milk), milk porridge.

For cereal, grind in a coffee grinder a crock of rice, buckwheat or oatmeal, boil well and slightly add salt. Mancu should not be given. In porridge you can add chopped white chicken or beef meat. Once a week, you can give half of the boiled yolk, and add a little honey to the cottage cheese.

Between feedings there should be equal intervals of time, only at night there will be an 8-hour break. Fresh water should always be in an easily accessible place.

When the age of the pug has already reached 2-3 months, portions are increased and the puppy is transferred to 5-time feeding. Kashu can now be cooked not on milk, but on meat broth.

A puppy aged 3 to 7 months is fed 4 times a day. Gradually introduce into his diet fish and stewed vegetables, followed by raw fruits and vegetables. From this time, milk can be completely excluded from the dog's diet. But cottage cheese is needed pug until old age.

From 3 months the rapid growth of the puppy begins, so you need to be prepared that at this time the puppy will consume the feed 1.5-2 times more than the adult pug.

At 7-12 months the pet is fed three times a day, and after a year-old age - twice.

If you decide to switch to dry pork forage, then get only quality products. And be aware that with mixed feeding (dry food + natural food), the dog can have serious problems. For example, dry food and meat together give an excess of protein, phosphorus and a lack of calcium. As a result, the pet can develop rickets, and the protein-accelerated growth will lead to problems with the joints. In a more mature age, the dog is threatened by urolithiasis and kidney failure.

Pug Diseases

Pugs, unfortunately, are predisposed to certain diseases. Of the hereditary diseases should be noted Perthes disease, or aseptic necrosis of the femoral head due to circulatory disorders. Owners can notice the pronounced lameness of the puppy in 4-10 months. Perthes' disease is treated only surgically.

Another genetically determined disease is demodicosis. This mite parasitizes only on dogs, but causes the disease only in animals with reduced immunity.

Pugs often have corneal injuries. They are pricked with sharp grass blades, dust, sand falls into the eyes. In case of any eye injuries, you should see a doctor soon!

The penguin's estrus

When the bitch reaches the age of 6-9 months, the first heat begins, which lasts 3 weeks on average. Dog, not accustomed to regular cycles, immediately may become confused. But, as a rule, even a very young bitch quickly understands the situation and begins to suck up. Further estrus will be regular, usually twice a year. The interval between estrus can be 5-10 months, as a rule, in summer it is less, and in winter or after childbirth - more.

At this time a person practically does not feel any odor from the dog, but the dogs feel it at a great distance. Going for a walk with a bitch, always fasten it to the leash, otherwise you will not have time to call your pet to him and pick him up. Even if there was not a single dog around, a dog could suddenly appear. Do not create unnecessary problems neither yourself nor the dog, because puppies, like children, should always be welcome!
