Rio Negro River

Through the territory of Uruguay , the river Rio Negro flows - the tributary of Uruguay , which originates on the Brazilian plateaus and flows from west to east of the country. Finding the Rio Negro river on the map is very easy - it seems to divide the country into two parts: the northern one, which includes 6 departments, and the southern one (13 departments in it). And in the middle of it - and practically in the center of Uruguay - there is a reservoir of the same name on it.

It should not be confused with the Rio Negro River, which is a tributary of the Amazon, and the Rio Negro River in Argentina , in the north of Patagonia , which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Although, in general, all three rivers are obliged to the names of their water colors: if you look at the Rio Negro river in the photo, you can see that it really is a "black river".

Importance of the river for the country

The river basin of the Rio Negro is bounded in the northwest of Cuchillo de Aedo, and in the southwest by the Kuchilla Grande. The total area of the pool is 70714 sq. M. km.

The Black River in Uruguay plays a rather important role: first, in the lower reaches it is navigable (up to the city of Mercedes) and is a significant transport artery. Secondly, there are two hydroelectric power stations on it.
